Tablets are the hot item in electronics right now and are currently taking over the technology industry. Read the following article about just how fast their popularity is growing. Also, tablets are so small and user friendly it has been suggested that they will be popping up in unfamiliar places before we know it. The second article is about one such example. Read both articles. What do you think? Do you own a tablet already? If so, what kind and what do you think about it? If not, do you plan on getting one in the near future and what is appealing about tablets? What are some other uses you can think of for tablets? What are some pros and cons to the current technology boom?

I think that tablets could be used for a multitude of different tasks.
ReplyDeleteI don't own a tablet, and I don't plan to get one.
I think tablets are popular because they are small and can run many different applications.
Teachers could use them to keep track of their student's grades.
A pro is that tablets could make many tasks easier. A con is that people could rely on the tablets too much
I think that it's perfectly acceptable to think that most people in America will have a tablet. I don't own one, but I wouldn't mind having one. I don't plan on getting one in the near future as I plan on buying a couple pairs of Toms first. But my best friend has an iPad, and it's super handy. It's like a mini laptop, or a really big iTouch (which I do own). A use for tablets that I can think of is just a map. Like if they had 3g, I would use it on the road to get directions to places and to use mapquest while I was out on the road. Some pros the the boom is you'll be getting better things and there are more uses for it. A con is they go out so quickly because the company comes out with newer, better things so fast.
ReplyDeleteI don't own a tablet, don't ever plan to own a tablet, and pretty much don't see that much use for a tablet. I agree that they can be useful to some degree, but to me its a step back from the laptop.
ReplyDeleteI can't really think of anything a tablet can do that a laptop can't.
I don't have one and i have no idea what a tablet is. Never heard of it. It seems that it could be a great item to have and i thing i would enjoy it. If i knew more about it i guess i would have more to say.I can't judge the pros and cons about it when i have never heard of it till today.
ReplyDeleteTablets could be a very useful product especially in hospitals, schools or even restaurants as the second article mentioned. I do not own a tablet however I have thought about getting one. My brother-in-law owns an Ipad and let me look at it. They are useful, but I still like the standard laptop better. I think a pro of the current technology boom are quicker solutions to those problems that have a technology aspect, and some of the cons could be lost jobs if people are being replaced by computers, the technology could be relied on too much and hacking issues among many other things.
ReplyDeleteHaving a tablet at restaurants sounds like a good idea for the restaurant because is will let customers spend money faster with less time to think about it. I had a ipad last year. I liked it because its smaller and I had a lot of games on it.
ReplyDeleteI think the tablet would be a good fit for most but not all situations. No, i dont have a tablet but i would like to own one though, but i think it can be a great idea for waitiers. Its better then pen and paper, its faster and easy. Im pretty sure if apple makes tablet it would be very appealing. But some cons are it could freeze up or not work. They can use a tablet for basketball to keep stats and etc.
ReplyDeleteI think these little tablets are going to become very popular in the near future, even more popular than they are now. I do not own a tablet but I wouldn't be scared to get one because they look pretty darn neat and can do many things. Some uses would be for keeping track of baseball stats right on the field and even in other sports. Some pros would be they are nice and compact and some cons would be they might be a little pricey right now since they are brand new.
ReplyDeleteI think that tablets are great. They give you tons of computing abilities on the go. Instead of bringing a laptop for a presentation, you can grab your iPad instead.
ReplyDeleteI would like to own an iPad but not much changed in the second generation from the first to warrant a purchase yet. I'm waiting for the revolution, not an evolution.
What I find most appealing and also a big pro for tablets is their ease of use and accessibility. Tons of applications are available for them that offer near limitless potential to what they can do.
The con that I see in the restaurants case is that the tablet replaces a persons job.
These things sound like they are a good idea because you can send your order right to the kitchen, and easy way to check for tips and to split the check. I dont own a tablet probably wont get one here soon either. Some of the pros about this is that the customers dont have to wait for service and can communicate with the kitchen, but some of the cons these devices might be taking jobs away from local people, for instance the waiter, or waitress.
ReplyDeleteI don't own a tablet of any sort. I think maybe in the future i will own one just for the convience of it's size. It's easy to carry around and is just like another smart phone to download apps or explore the internet. I think it's really cool that restraunts are adding them to their tables. They are a quick way to look at the menu and figure out tips.
ReplyDeleteI feel that having everything go to smartphones or tablets will take the personal feel out of let's say a restruant situation. People sometimes enjoy the social aspect and probably don't want to order from an application all the time.
I think that the tablet frenzy is well deserved, the idea of a tablet is good. A small slim device that can do a multitude of different things? why not?
ReplyDeleteI do not own a tablet but if I had the opportunity to, I would. I'm not sure if I'll get one in the future but it is something I am interested in.
Tablets could be used to check into class, schedule appointments with other tablet users/businesses,
and keep on the field stats for sports.
Pros: small light design makes them easier to carry then a laptop.
Cons: freezing, durability and limited to apps.
Regarding the pad menu, I think it might be a good idea for some restaurants IF they have a waiter/waitress standing by just in case. People who go to fine dinning want to feel special and generally want a real person to boss around. Some more down to earth people might like it, but it would take away from the atmosphere for many.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest problem in that market is the companies are trying to force their products on the market rather then meeting the needs of the market. Granted they are making a lot of money, but this is generally because of people who MUST have the newest big thing, and these companies fight tooth and nail to convince the masses that their product IS the newest big thing. I see a change coming to the market, nothing soon, but eventually the tablet maket will become like the laptop market.
I think it's crazy how advanced our technology is like now days. I do not own a tablet and I don't plan on getting one in the near future, they are appealing in that you can almost have them everywhere and use apps and the internet almost everywhere as well. I don't know what else they could be used for. Using them as waitors and waitresses is already past my level of ideas.
ReplyDeleteSome pros to the new technology boom is all the advancements we now have. We can be entertained whenever and have almost everything available for us with just a touch of a button.
Some cons to this new boom is that technology sometimes makes people more lazy and we are not required to actually do hands on work. If restruants were to install the tablets as the waitresses, we no longer have to communicate with people as often which could hurt our communication skills, but it would also take away some jobs or a whole part to the waitressing job.
Ok now i have to back up my last blog, i know what a tablet is, i bought one but never use it, bought it because it look like a great toy to have lmao.
ReplyDeleteI do not own a tablet, but maybe some day i would like to have one. I think that they are a good idea because most of them are small so you can put them in your backpack and take them to class with you without having your backpack weigh a hundred pounds. I think that a pro is that they can make things easier because of all the things that you can do with them.
ReplyDeleteReguarding the popularity of tablets- I think they will continue to grow and become more and more frequently used as they become more and more advanced. They are definately convenient. I think they will overtake computers and will take over the techonology world until something better comes along and takes them over.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good idea to have at the table in a resteraunt. I have never been a waitress but whenever I see them they are always busy doing something. I think the device would make less trips for the waitress/waiter. I think they would work unless someone switched the table it was on to confuse people. I think being able to have a detailed description of the food, pictures, calculator, and prices will make the tablets more practical than a regular menue because the regular ones today don't have a picture of everything.
No I do not own a tablet now.
I do plan on getting one in the future; probably not soon though. I want to wait untill they are very advanced- enough to totally replace a computer. As of now I dont think I could do all of my typing, researching, and everything else on such a little screen/ keyboard.
Other uses- well they already have a lot of uses and I can't think of any.
Pros- everything is at your fingertips- all the pictures, calenders, agendas, internet, unlocking your car and anything else you can think of with an app. You have all the access to your personal information instantly.
Cons- coast, losing all the information due to virus, identity theft/ theft of information if the device is lost or stolen.
I think the pros weigh out the cons. I think as the world is growing people need to keep up with the technology.
I do not own a tablet, nor do I plan on buying one any time soon. Tablets seem cool, and they're appealing because they are new and different. On one hand, tablets can do anything smartphones can (except make phone calls...?) but on a much larger screen. They are also more portable than laptops. On the other hand, new tech like tablets are expensive, and if they are used like in the restaurant article, they could take jobs away from people.
ReplyDeleteI do not own a tablet although id be willing to bet ill own one soon. The fact that I can use my fingers for everything and not touch a button or have to have my hands a certain way. Hospitals, car washes, online classes, pop/candy stations, road signs, fridges. New stuff all the time that can be considered a pro and a con. Its more expensive, its being applied everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI think that tablets could be very useful for many different things. I do not currently own one and am still slightly unsure what all is considered a tablet but I would like to purchase one of them that you can read novels on. I read a lot and it gets tiresome at times having so many books around that are cluttering up my house.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the idea of having a tablet as my waiter/waitress. I still prefer that personal contact with a live person. I do think it might be a great idea to incorporate the tablets as the order screen and cash register for the wait staff. I think that might improve service as they could then input it right there as they are taking it.
I think that electronics are too heavily relied on already so I think that would be my con. Overuse. I think we are all becoming disconnected socially.
I think the tablets are handy. I do not own one, but my mom has one so I have used one. My mom has an Ipad, so if I wanted one I would get that. I might get one in the future, but I don't really need one. There are so many apps out there now that can do almost anything for you. The pro is that you have access to basically unlimited options and the cons are that we are all becoming dependent on our technology and growing further apart.
