Career Ambitions

Everyone has been asked the cliche question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" a hundred times but have you ever stopped to really consider your options?  The job market is limitless and often the "secret", unconsidered jobs are the ones that have opportunities to make millions.  Read the following articles.  Have you ever considered these jobs? What did you find interesting about these articles?

  1. Before reading both articles, I never even considered facebook to be a job. the 2nd link was closer to my taste, but still not somthing I would consider. As far as what was interesting, the facebook article was kinda meh, but the one on the silicon valley job boom was a good read.

  3. I never considered either of those jobs for me. I don't like the fact that you would sit in front of a computer all day. Way too boring. I did find it interesting that people actually work for those companies. Yeah yeah, I know I'm naive. It was kinda cool that people can get jobs for Facebook and Google and other things... It's just most definitely not for me.

  4. I have considered jobs like those, but I realize that I don't have the skills for them. It was interesting to see that there is a boom in job openings for technical jobs.

  5. I have never considered any of these jobs for myself. I would call myself more of a people person rather than sitting and working on a computer all day. I found it interesting that facebook has so many job openings for just a social networking site.

  6. Im still not sure what i want to do in the future but i know that neither of these jobs would be right for me. I dont think i could work with computers all day. Working at a desk all day looking at a computer screen is not for me. There are thousands of people that apply for these jobs a year. Companies like these are making jobs for hundreds and thousands each year.

  7. I've never really considered looking for a job at either places, but the boom in Silicon Valley is interesting. It sounds very similar to the boom in the 1990s.

  8. Well, I have always been interested in computer science, and I do plan to learn programming, especially game programming in the future. My current goals of a degree in engineering will take all of my time for now, but it never hurts to widen you perspective with new skills.

On facebook, I would have to know more about the kind of job it would be before deciding if I wanted to work there.

  9. I have looked and read about facebook and google but to me i can't see myself working for these companies. I have my own company and like where i'm at. I can't find myself behind a desk all day doing work for others and getting them rich when i could be doing it for myself. I have been there and done that. Now i'm working for myself and doing great.

  10. I have considered those jobs but Software Engineering requires alot of math, something I am tired of. Maybe I'll enjoy that kind of job at a later date, but for now it is in limbo.

The articles are interesting because most of these jobs require college education. It is pretty interesting what a boom in jobs social networking sites have created over the past years.

  11. These jobs did sound interesting but probably aren't the field I'm looking at entering. I never would have guessed that Facebook had so many job offers and openings. It has truly become a large social networking empire. The jobs listed in the articles were mostly for softwear engineers which is completely oppisite of what i want to do. Someone interested in these fields has many job oppurtunites awaiting.

  12. I have not considered these jobs before because I'm not a big "technical computer person". I do not think I would enjoy building or designing softwares; but I have never tried to make one before.
I have never thought of these sites haveing job openings and sending an acutal application like a regular job. I did not know thier process of hiring, but I thought it would be different.

I found it interesting that there are so many positions available at these jobs. I also found it interesting that these places were the "best" places to work at. I want to know the details of how to be considered the best work place- what characterstics does this entail?

  13. I have never considered these jobs. I'm too active to sit on a computer all day. I found Facebook receiving 250,000 job applications last year interesting information because I wouldnt want to work for them personally. Marty Hu rejecting interview requests from Google and Microsoft interesting because I bet its more Stanford University's computer science program graduates that would of taken interview request.

  15. i have never really thought about any of these jobs that they are offering. i am not sure that any of these jobs would be good for me i would not like to sit and be at a computer all the time. i thought it was interesting how there are so many jobs available just through facebook and google.

  16. I have never considered these jobs. I would not be creative enough. I found it interesting how fast the employment rates are going up and that young kids just out of school can come up with such advanced tools to get offers from big time companies. Although I think it's interesting how in an interview at facebook you get questioned from the team you will possibly be working with as well as your boss. This would really give you an idea of what you are getting into.

  17. I have never considered either of these jobs because I wouldn't want to work in front of a computer all day for a living, and I don't have the skills for Software Eng.
I think the fact that there is a job boom in Silicon Valley is very interesting. I also think the fact that a social networking site has so many jobs available is amazing.

  18. No. I found it interesting that a kid from Harvard got offered so many jobs and turned them down. I didn’t realize there was a place called silicone valley. Working for facebook would be an interesting job.

  19. These jobs did sound interesting but i never really considered any of those jobs. I never would have guessed that Facebook had so many job offers and openings. I think that was kind of interesting. But i wouldnt mind making money with those jobs if my options were open.

  20. I can see the interest in computer science and building the different applications that go along with it. I am not one to do it though so I have never considered either of these. I know what I'm going to be and it honestly has nothing to do with computers or technology except what I need in order to keep my documents up to date. I do not think that I would be a good fit for these companies.

With that said I think it's great that we have a hiring boom going on in silicone valley especially with the setbacks in the economy. It gives people who have been struggling hope.
