Eyes on the road, hands on the wheel?

This is something your parents and driver ed teachers have been telling you for years but are you really taking their advice?  Read the following article about how car manufacturers are trying to keep up with the latest trends in technology.  Do you you think this is a good idea?  What are some of the pros and cons to their new ideas and integrated car technology?  What does your vehicle currently have factory installed and what other technology do you regularly use that is not "part" of your car?

  1. Yes I think this is a good idea because it makes the car ride more enjoyable if you are on the road a lot. Some pros are it helps on not having a boring ride home or to school. Some of the cons are you could get disstracted by it and cause a accident. With this new technology it can only cause bad if you let it. My pickup has a GPS, a chip computer, and a radar. While driving I sometimes use my phn. only if it is important because I already wrecked on of my vechiles texting while driving.

  2. honestly... i dont think that any new technology substitutes keepin attention as no technology at all... no matter what... when you are driving... there is no risk of accidents that amounts to the risk of driving while on the phone, or texting on the phone. When your driving... all attention should stay on the road... but when you text or call... a percentage of alertiveness, view, and clear thinking is subtracted. Thats all i have to say... or... thats all i should say...

  3. Its can be a good thing and a bad thing. Its good to have a GPS system in your vehcile so you know where your going on a long trip. Its also a bad idea because with all the different new technology in your car you can become desracted and not pay attention while you are driving. In my car all i have is a radio with a cassette player.

  4. I think it is a good idea. My car does not have those new technology, but it would be nice if I have it. Especially handsfree tools are really good to use because it is less distraction for a driver. There are still risks of using the new technology but I guess it is good to have it anyway.

  5. I think it can be a good idea to have this but it comes with its own consequences. The good thing about it would be a more enjoyable ride to place to place and the bad is that it causes distractions of the driver which leads to bad things as everyone knows. I don't have a car.

  6. i think new technology is very helpful but you need to know when and when not to use it. the pros are that it you have an easier time to find where you need to go. but on the other hand you can be distracted at the same time, by either looking for something or trying to reset one of your systems. right now my car has a cd player/radio.

  7. I think this is a good idea for the people that can stay focused on the road. Everyday driving you see people texting and talking the phone. In many states you can get a massive fine for even talking on your cell phone while driving. I think people need to be more aware of the road and stay focused. The pros of this would be not so much looking down at your phone. The cons of this would be that people would be more worried about a text or what is going on on facebook rather than worrying about what they are going to hit right in front of them. I do not have anything factory installed in my car and the only thing I plug into my radio is my ipod. I do use my GPS on occasion, but it usually isn't something that distracts me because I set my destination before I start driving. It definently would help with the number of accidents caused a year, but I also think it would be distracting.

  8. i think what there saying makes sense cause when u drive all your attention should be on the road especially cause of the other drivers that aren't paying attention on also may be on the phone...

    Thats there choice though...

  9. I think its a good thing and a bad thing to have more tec in your car. Yes it would make things alot easyer to find your way, and also get rid of cdplayers and what not, but at the same time for most people it will keep there eyes off the road. Its up to the driver to decide whats to much for them to handle while driving. Its because of people that cant keep there eyes on the road that things happen. :)

  10. i think its a pretty good idea i guess. My truck is a '95 so it doesnt have any new technology in it. when i got it it didnt even have a CD player. I use my ipod and i put in a cd player but thats about it. pros i guess would be that its something new and useful. cons would be more expenses and just another way for technology to take over the world.

  11. I think like the gps in cars are a good thing but hooking up to your smart phone for text and all those other things is getting a little crazy. I think that when people are driving they need to have their minds on the road not on facebook. My truck only has a cd player in it, and i think thats all it should need. Technology that I use would be my laptop, and my Ipod touch.

  12. I really think it is a good idea. It is a good idea to always be trying to make driving a safe and easy way of transportation. A pro would be that it would make driving a lot safer than before. A con would be that the new devices would make the car more expensive and not very affordable for lower class people. I dont have any gadgets or devices in my car.

  13. Opinions don't really matter in this case because companies will do whatever they want in order to be the "hot topic" of cars and technology. The pro's of most of these features is handsfree features, but a big con is, no matter if it's hands free or not it's still a huge distraction on the road. Texting and driving seems to be a big issue in car accidents today but with this technology they are making it easier to text and drive just without keeping you're eyes off the road. Talking on the phone is a big distraction so what's the point of telling you're car what to text to someone. Personally if they are worried about keeping cars as up to date as technology they should think of safer ideas. Why not build a car that can sense if you've drank so therefor you wouldn't be able to drive. There are more issues in the world than keeping technology up to date so maybe this shouldn't be on the top priorities list.

  14. i think they should stop trying to make the cars more technological because all that is is more to hassel with and more money out of our pockets. Besides hardly anybody in today's society uses half of the crap that is in the new cars. the good thing would be you could maybe fly if they are able to go that far.

  15. These features would be cool to have in slowmoving North Dakota, but I don't see how I would not be able to use them in fastpaced city traffic, where I am constantly focused on the road and the cars around me. Most of the technology in my car is aftermarket and is all for audio and navigation.

  16. It's a great idea but I believe it will cause a huge rift in the generation gap from the youth and the older generation unless they are on the road frequently. It WILL make driving oh so much safer and more enjoyable (especially while on the road for a long period of time) and that is something to praise, but with technology-challenged people (myself very much included) might have problems. But one can learn. As long as one knows how to use the system, I don't see any hazards save maybe prices. $$
I personally have my ipod hooked up to the cassette player all the time. And I do change the songs all the time, so much for driving safe.

  17. yes its a good idea but then it kinda dnt matter because there is no perfect driver n ur not going to follow every rule..also i dnt have my car wit me i just got it sept5 but my brother usein it ..

  18. Well… Some of the things they are coming up with in technology is supposed to help people not have to take their eyes away from the road. I think that is good… but at the same time. There is too much going on. You can’t be on the internet, looking for songs while you’re driving. Anything could happen in a second, and if your attention isn’t on the road, are you going to be able to react fast enough? This is your life, or another’s life that is at risk. My vehicle… is ancient… But I do connect an adapter for my I-pod. If I could tell my I-pod to go to a certain play list, or song, I wouldn’t have to look down at my i-pod to change the song with my hand… That would be safer….

  19. I think this will cut down on accidents since everything is available hands-free. I think being able to have texts read to you is a safe option for those who literally can't put down there phones. The con is people who don't need such technology will be buying cars with much more new stream technology that maybe considered distracting to those who usually don't use such things. My car is a P.O.S so it doesn't have these nice things but i would like the pandora and text capability through the radio.

  20. I THINK IT COULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR SOME THINGS BUT I ALSO THINK IT CAN CAUSE A LOT OF DEATHS. BUT WHO KNOWS THATS PROLLY WHAT THE GOVERNMENT MAKES IT FOR TO KILL US. LOL
BUT COULD B A COOL IDEA.

  21. I think that this is an amazing transition for cars, but at the same time I also think this is a bad idea. Creating more technologies in cars with pointless things like facebook or twitter that you can use when your sitting in a coffee shop shouldn't be updated while you are driving. I think this could cause just as much distraction as texting, but again, I also think its interesting to see how much technology has progressed among the years. My car is a 2003 so it doesn't have any nice things besides a radio and cd player, but I would love to have nice things like voice activated onstar or a gps system.

  22. I think this is a good idea because its making driving alot safer for people. It will cut down on the amount of accidents that happen.

  23. i think this is a very good idea, but very expensive. i think it can make driving safer for those who know how to use the technology. and for those who dont know how to use it... they can learn or just not have it. i think it would make driving a lot more enjoyable too. my car doesnt have anything but a tape player... yay?
